Tucumcari, New Mexico is a small town filled with big surprises. It may be known for its association with Route 66, and living time capsules such as the amazing Roadrunner Lodge, but there is more. Much, much more.
The city is at the heart of an adventurers paradise. Highway 104, a drive of just over one hundred miles to Las Vegas, New Mexico, is one of the most scenic in the state. Ute Lake, one of the longest in the state, is just 25 miles to the north. The Tucumcari Talking Tour is a fascinating way to discover the city's history, and a few of its hidden gems. Back country adventures for 4x4 enthusiasts, mountain bikers or hikers are chock full of ghost towns, historic sites, and awe inspiring scenic wonders.
On today's program America's storyteller shares a few of his favorite places, and gives a bit of insight as to why Tucumcari is a destination, not just a stop. And for more information check out the city's tourism portal at visittucumcarinm.com
