In the first of our new weekly true crime series, America's storyteller shares an unsolved mystery from 1935. The disappearance of George Lorius, his wife Laura, and their friends Albert and Tillie Heberer, was the catalyst for the largest man hunt in New Mexico history. Even the National Guard was involved.
The vacationing couples were having a grand time traveling west along Route 66. They made a detour to Vaughn, New Mexico and simply vanished. Clues led to Albuquerque and Quemado, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas. Then the trail went cold.
Today's haunting tale is sponsored in part by RouteTrip USA, the bespoke road trip holiday specialists for an adventure in the US or Canada.
