Mud College, Oklahoma? Parkersburg, Oklahoma? Green Ridge, Illinois? Curious? On this mornings program we talk Route 66 ghost towns and the music of Route 66, literally, with Dr. Nolan Stolz, Associate Professor of Music, Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies, University of South Carolina Upstate. In anticipation of the forthcoming Route 66 Centennial, Stolz is creating a suite that brings the story of this iconic highway to life. And in his search for inspiration, and to develop an intimacy with this highway, he is also unraveling the secrets of literal ghost towns.
This program is sponsored in part by the iconic Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba, Missouri. At this magical roadside treasure the past and present blend seamlessly, and the very essence of the Route 66 experience is made manifest.
