It was the original capital of the Illinois territory and the state of Illinois. It was established almost 75 years before the Declarationo of Independence was signed. It had a population numbered in the thousands in the early 19th century. Today, with a population of less than 30, it is a ghost town. And it is the only Illinois town that is located in Missouri.
On today's program America's storyteller talks Illinois (and Missouri) history, road trips, podcasts, Route 66 festivals and events, and grand adventure. As the theme song by the Road Crew says, come along for the ride.
Today's program is sponsored in part by delightful, fun, magical, surprising Tucumcari, New Mexico. It is also sponsored in part by Uranus Fudge Company & General Store, Kingman Route 66 Fest, and the Roadrunner Lodge.
