It started with roadside camping and free public campgrounds. And then an innovative visionary in California developed an entirely new type of roadside lodging that he called a motor hotel or motel for short. Then came auto courts such as the White Rock Court in Kingman, Arizona, and finally, chain motels like Holiday Inn.
On today's program author Jim Hinckley shares the story of motel evolution, and profiles a couple of unique examples that have survived into the modern era.
