In part one of our series about Great Depression era gangsters, we share a few stories form the infamous Central Park district of Tulsa. Ma Barker and her vicious sons, Volney Davis, and other outlaws of the era started their criminal careers in Tulsa. Some became prolific bank robbers, others became hired guns for Al Capone, Detroit's Purple Gang, and Egan's Rats in St. Louis.

When he launched a business venture along Route 66, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable and Jack Benny happily invested. And he was the only convicted murderer to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In the first of our new weekly true crime series, America's storyteller shares an unsolved mystery from 1935. The disappearance of George Lorius, his wife Laura, and their friends Albert and Tillie Heberer, was the catalyst for the largest man hunt in New Mexico history. Even the National Guard was involved.
The vacationing couples were having a grand time traveling west along Route 66. They made a detour to Vaughn, New Mexico and simply vanished. Clues led to Albuquerque and Quemado, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas. Then the trail went cold.
